He trained under Kumbakonam Sri. Srinivasan, a disciple of the great Kumbakonam Sri. Rajamanickam Pillai. Later, he had advanced training under the contemporary violin maestro Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sri. M. Chandrasekaran. He started performing with his guru in violin duet concerts in the year 1965. His has been playing for over four decades. Sridharan has accompanied many great musicians of the past – Chembai Baghavathar, T.K. Rangachari, Prof. S. Ramanathan, D.K. Jayaraman, K.V. Narayanaswamy, to name a few. Likewise, he has performed in the company of great percussionists like Palghat Mani Iyer, Dr. T.K. Murthy, Palghat Raghu and the like. Sridharan has travelled around the world performing at festivals and music series, including jugalbandhis, in the company of Mandolin Shrinivas, Zakir Hussain and Vikkhu Vinayakram. Among the various titles that he has received, the most important one is the Astana Vidwan of Sri Kamakoti Peetham conferred on him by the Paramacharya and the Best Senior Violinist award from the Music Academy in 1986 during their All India festival, and the Best Senior Violinist award from the Indian Fine Arts Society in 1996.
