Sandeep Narayan

img

Sandeep Narayan, is a disciple of the well acclaimed musician, Sri Sanjay Subrahmanyan. He started his initial training in vocal music at the age of four, under the guidance of his mother, Smt. Shubha Narayan. Though born and raised in America, his passion and interest in music inspired him to take off from school at the age of 11 to go to India and begin advanced training under the revered musician and musicologist, the late Calcutta Sri K.S. Krishnamurthy in 1996. He has continued to sharpen his skills under Sanjay Subrahmanyan since 1999, and moved to Chennai in 2006 to pursue his musical career fulltime.

After giving his debut performance of a full concert at the age of 11 in 1996, Sandeep has performed regularly in India, Sri Lanka, Singapore, and venues all over the United States as well. He is a regular in the Chennai music season, performing in all major sabhas including The Music Academy, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, and Narada Gana Sabha, to name a few.

In 2008, Sandeep performed a very unique jugalbandhi for the Friday Review NovemberFest music festival held at The Music Academy Madras, organized by The Hindu. He is the recipient of numerous awards, having received The Indian Fine Arts Society's 'Best Sub-Senior Vocalist Award' for the 2008 December music festival, among others.

Sandeep has earned high praise from musicians as well as music lovers, and regularly performs with well accomplished artists. He has also performed with the Grammy award winning ghatam artist, Sri T.H. 'Vikku' Vinayakram and has worked with fusion artists such as V. Selvaganesh, Pete Lockett, and others. He most recently performed in the grand inaugural show for the Chennai Sangamam 2010 arts festival, directed by Prasanna Ramaswamy and presided over by the Chief Minister of Chennai, Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi. In addition to live theatre, Sandeep has sung for documentaries and feature films.
