Sudha Raghunathan

img

Padmasri, Kalaimaamani Sudha Raghunathan started her initial training in Carnatic music under her mother, Smt. Choodamani, and Shri. B.V.Lakshmanan for a few years. She then came under the guidance of Sangeetha Kalanidhi Smt. M.L.Vasanthakumari when she received the Central Government Scholarship for advanced training. Sudha is one of MLV's foremost disciples and had the special privilege of providing vocal support to her in most concerts between the years 1978-1987, traveling widely within, and outside of India. Academically, she has a record of being one outstanding student, having completed post graduate studies in Economics. Titles and awards have been showered on her and she has carved a niche for herself in the international music scene, representing India, and particularly Carnatic music, in various festivals the world over. Sudha has given back to the community with equal fervor. In 2000, she instituted the "Samudhaaya Foundation." This trust, for which she holds the position of Managing Trustee, covers a wide spectrum of activities including music, education and several charitable ventures.
