Thyagaraja Aradhana Day
April Saturday 7th, 2018 - 9:00 AM

Thyagaraja Aradhana is celebrated to pay homage to Saint Thyagaraja, the most renowned of the Carnatic Music Trinity. He was born on May 4, 1767 to Kakarla Ramabrahmam and Seethamma in Thiruvarur, Tamil Nadu, and started his musical education, at a young age, under the guidance of Sonti Venkataramanayya. Thyagaraja composed numerous kritis and two musical dramas. He was an ardent devotee of Lord Rama. His kirthanas are filled with bhakthi; his words impart wisdom and focus on the attainment of peace and happiness through sacrifice and renunciation. On January 6, 1847, Saint Thyagaraja attained Samadhi. The official “Thyagaraja Aradhana” is celebrated at Thiruvaiyaru, every year, on Pushya Bagula Panchami day, the day he attained samadhi.
